resource library houses a wide variety of parenting information
on many topics in both English and French. This includes books,
magazines, videos as well as a number of kits on specific subjects
to assist you in your parenting role. In addition, we have a computer
that allows you access to relevant websites on the internet. We
also have specific information sections for fathers and grandparents.

Let's
Grow Kits - These kits contain suggested books, information
and toys that can be used as a supplement to the Let's Grow
packages. Let's Grow is a series of free newsletters that focuses
on important information about the healthy growth and development
of children and families. It is available by filling out a subscription
form at the Ontario Early Years Centre or by contacting the
Algoma Health Unit (tollfree 1-888 537 5741). The Let's Grow
kits are available at the Ontario Early Years Centre. |
LAP
- (Learning Activities Package) Each kit contains developmentally
appropriate learning activities based on a quality children's
book. The kit contains early learning activities, easy to read
instructions, and all the materials needed including scissors,
glue, crayons, etc. The kit is intended to extend literacy development
in the home and provide for various learning styles. |
Literacy
Kits - These kits provide language activities to encourage
family reading and help parents support their children's early
reading/writing/math skill development. The kits include books,
board games, sorting and lacing activities etc. that will encourage
thinking and conversation with children. |
General
Lending Information |
For
Groups:
A reasonable number of toys, books, kits, and videos may
be borrowed on a temporary basis: usually for a day or a
weekend. An application form is required to be filled out
at the time the items are borrowed. There is a charge for
overdue items. Lost or damaged items may be replaced at
cost value or paid for through a donation. Drop in and enjoy
our resource library.
For Parents:
Up to three toys can be lent out to a family for up to three
weeks at a time. A reasonable number of books, kits, and
videos can be borrowed per lending period, however videos
and kits may only be borrowed for a one week period. Lost
or damaged items may be replaced at cost value or paid for.
There is a charge for overdue items. An application form
is required to be filled out at the time the items are borrowed.
